London 1970; a tale of 2 buildings

Why there is a silent grey bunker as well as the loud Libeskind library at London Metropolitan University


September 1970 was the date I arrived in London to live. Despite remaining the world traveller my fathers army life trained me to be I’ve been here ever since; London I gave you the best years of my life. In return you shaped me, gave me values (thanks peeps!), then sent me out to change the world (as we all do).

The image below (London Metropolitan University on the Holloway Road) had only two constituent parts when I arrived in London in September 1970. One year later the military bunker (aka admin building) on the right had been added; commissioned by a returning colonial Colonel drafted in to whip students into shape as a reward for giving legitimacy to the illegal white supremacists of Rhodesia
